The mission of the Sara DeSoto Chapter of DAR is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. This provides an incredibly wide range of opportunities for women of all ages to serve the Sarasota community and the nation. Committees include American Indians, Conservation, Literacy, American History, Naturalized Citizens, DAR Schools, Women’s Issues, Veterans Affairs, and American Music, to name just a few.
Membership in the DAR is simple and straightforward. There are also auxiliary associations such as the Children of the American Revolution with age relevant activities, promoting love of country and leadership skills.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, October through May, in the Chapter House at Pioneer Park in north Sarasota. Early afternoon meetings alternate with late afternoon meetings. Each meeting includes social time, tea table with refreshments, a business meeting, speaking presentation, lending library session.
Throughout the year, the chapter is very involved with community support by actively engaging the local area with fundraising events, scholarships, and educational programs that benefit people and families.
